Central to Anthony’s approach is painting outdoors which gives him immediate access to the fleeting qualities of light, weather and atmosphere that define each scene. He often makes small, focused studies on location to capture colour relationships and shifting tonal values, then refines or enlarges those studies later in the studio while preserving the vitality of the original response.

Inspired by the seascapes and harbours of Cornwall, where he currently lives, as well as the Yorkshire Dales which he visits regularly, Anthony combines a sensitive handling of oil paint with acute observation and a careful attention to atmosphere and light and translates those observations into compositions that balance mood with structure.
